Institute of Continuous Media Mechanics and Max-Planck-Institut fuer Radioastronomie

German-Russian Open Workshop,
Perm, Russia, September 6-8, 2006
supported by

Organized by:
Institute of Continuous Media Mechanics (Perm, Russia)
Max-Planck-Institut fuer Radioastronomie (Bonn, Germany)

Co-chairmen:
Prof. Peter Frick (Institute of Continuous Media Mechanics)
Dr. Rainer Beck (Institut fuer Radioastronomie)

Scientific content

Topics to be addressed at the Workshop are the following:
- Radio observations
- ISM turbulence
- molecular line observations
- spectral polarimetry of radio maps
- statistical characteristics of observational data and ISM patterns
- canals in polarization
- Faraday effects & tomography
- MHD theory of the ISM

The aim of the Workshop is to bring together experts in observation, interpretation, theoretical studies and experimental research on the processes in a turbulent magnetized interstellar medium.
For a score of objective reasons the scope of the workshop will differ from that of the meetings ever held in this field of research. It is expected that contribution of Russian researchers to the workshop topics will be more substantial and will cover a wider spectrum of related problems. The presentations are expected to uncover new tools of wavelet analysis and experimental possibilities offered by rapid progress of experimental dynamo facilities. The program includes a comprehensive exhibit of dynamo experimental equipment available at Perm research institutes.

Participation

The workshop is held in the framework of the joint German-Russian project (supported by DFG and RFBR foundations) performed by scientists of the Max-Planck-Institut fuer Radioastronomie, Bonn, Germany, the Institute of Continuous Media Mechanics, Perm, Russia and the Science Research Computing Center of Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia. The workshop is open to participants from other scientific groups.
